Title: Grand Cahors celebrates European Mobility Week with SMOOTH goodies!

Thanks to the SMOOTH project Grand Cahors purchased several goodies to distribute to cyclists and pedestrians. Some of them were distributed during the European Mobility Week in September: the caps and the water bottles were given to the children who participated in the cycling tour in Cahors city centre, and the flash reflectors to the children participating in the Pédibus (walking bus) lines in Catus and Cahors.

Indeed, our communities are engaged, for 2 years, along with Europe, to promote alternative modes of transport to the car, especially in the European project SMOOTH where Grand Cahors is the lead partner.

Pays des vallons de Vilaine launch a soft mobility study

Seven employees received a cycling training session 22nd September 2011 in the urban area of Cahors using electric bikes. This training aims to ensure that cyclists are safe and feel confident cycling in an urban environment, and it makes them aware of the proper management of this new equipment.

Within the framework of the SMOOTH project and the long term land-use planning policies voted by the elected representatives of Pays des vallons de Vilaine (PVV) this year, PVV is developing a soft mobility plan (‘soft mobility’ is a term for active travel modes, in particular walking and cycling). The target of this soft mobility plan is to consider soft mobility as a major mode of transport. In a rural territory, this is a very ambitious undertaking, but this work is necessary to change travel habits.
